Why is squash named squash?

Rackets, a predecessor of squash, was popular in London's jails throughout the 19th century. A perforated ball, which "squashed" on collision with the wall, was discovered by Harrow School students in 1830. Another school started playing it.

The racquetball-like sport of squash is referred to as?

Racquetball is played using a 'racquet,' which has a teardrop-shaped strung area and may be as long as 55.88 cm. 'Racket' is a term used in squash, and it's not just for show. An early version of the game was referred to as 'Rackets' by English convicts. In comparison to tennis rackets, squash rackets are longer (up to 68.6 cm), but the strung surface is thinner.

Is squash like tennis in any way?

Tennis and squash have many similarities, but there are also many distinctions between the two games.

Court

The surfaces on which the two sports are played make a significant distinction. Tennis courts normally have a rectangular, flat surface and are not enclosed, whereas squash courts have walls against which players hit the ball.

Grass, clay, or concrete are common materials used for tennis courts, as is a net in the centre that separates the court into two halves for players to stand on.

Racquet

Tennis and squash racquets may seem identical, although squash racquets are often smaller. There is a maximum length for tennis racquets of 73.7 centimetres, while squash racquets are restricted to 68.6 cm.

Balls

While squash balls are composed of rubber with a hollow sphere, tennis balls are hollow rubber spheres with felt covering and are generally yellow in colour. The fundamental difference between squash balls and tennis balls is the substance. Tennis balls have a diameter of 6.54 to 6.86 centimetres, but squash balls have a maximum diameter of 4.05 centimetres. The weight of a tennis ball is 59.4 grammes, but a squash ball can weigh as little as 25 grammes.

Gameplay

In both tennis and squash, players can compete in singles or doubles matches . In both sports, the first serve is decided by a coin toss, and each player must have at least one foot on the ground when serving.

Does it hurt to hit yourself in the face with a squash ball?

Injuries to the eye and face can occur if a squash ball travels at more over 150 kph. As a result, most squash courts now require players to put on safety goggles before they can begin playing.. The game of squash may be enjoyable, but only if you're healthy.
